We started the space because we were sick of seeing boring things, art things, in Houston. Plus, we wanted a space devoted to the kind of work your not seeing in commercial galleries. Typically we showcase emerging artists who the commercial world haven't caught up to yet. We also created the space so that the younger artists can interact together.

The Joanna is also more of a project, or collaboration, between Cody Ledvina, Brian Rod and the Houston and Texas art community. We are not limited to merely showing visual works, and we're not limited even to the space we are currently in. The Joanna is a project, not a gallery.

Finally, we started this whole thing to have fun. It always seems like the making of the art is fun but looking at it is so heavy with anxiety. We want to relieve this.
